Your eyes are more noticeable to people at the moment because people focus on them whilst you are wearing a face mask. So eyeshadow will help to highlight your face and draw attention away from any mask that you are wearing. Eyeshadow also finishes off an outfit that you are wearing for a special occasion. But some people do not always wear eyeshadow. So when a special day comes along, they have no idea what to do or what look to go for.

The great thing about it is that putting on eyeshadow looks scarier than it is in real life. You just need to find the right shades, techniques and personal style. Don’t worry if it takes a few attempts to get it right, you will find your style. We wanted to share a few eyeshadow tips with you.

Base Of The Eyelid

Before you start you might want to use some eye cream. Then add a primer, you can get a specific eye primer that works really well. Barry M, Nyx, Collection all have eye primers at a really good price. The primer gives a nice smooth base for you to build your eyeshadow look with.

Then lastly for the base, use a light eyeshadow shade and sweep it across the eyelid as a base colour. Take it from the eyelid to just under the eyebrow.

What’s Your Eye Colour?

Different colour eyes work better with different shades of eyeshadow. So experiment with colours and do some research before you buy expensive palettes.

Blue eyes suit purples, taupe, grey, black and deep blue. You could create an awesome smokey look with these colours. Also try bold and bright colours like fuchsia, turquoise and silver.

Brown eyes suit coppers, apricots, khaki colours as well as vibrant colours like hot pink and orange.

Green eyes suit plum, forest green, khaki and purple as their shades. Also bold colours like bright purple and gold, possible even bright green.

How To Apply Eyeshadow

You won’t be able to create fabulous eyeshadow looks straight away, it will take time and practice. This is where Youtube becomes your best friend. You can watch people applying it in different ways and find your own way of doing it. But here are some tips that will help you to achieve awesome looks on your eyes.

Blend it – You use one eyeshadow brush to apply the eyeshadow. Then take a different brush to blend it in. To blend it in, you need to get rid of harsh lines in the eyeshadow, where the two colours meet. Blending means that your eyeshadow colour looks like one ombre shade on your eyes.

Bigger Eyes – If you have small eyes and want to make them look bigger, you need to use a lighter colour in the inner corner of your eyes and graduate to a darker shade from the middle of the eye to the outer corner.

Dramatic Eyes – By dipping your make-up brush into some water and dampening it down, you can create a more dramatic look. Just sweep your damp brush over the eyeshadow palette, then apply as normal. This is really good for a smokey eye look.

Highlighting Your Eyes

Raise Your Eyebrows – If you add a small bit of highlighter under the brow, it makes your eyebrows look more raised. So then your eyes look bigger and ‘pop’ more. Obviously, this works better if you have shaped eyebrows. You can also use a lighter eyeshadow shade to highlight if you do not have a highlighter handy.

Younger Looking Eyes- If you feel that your eyes give your age away, you can make them look a bit younger with this little trick. Take a lighter eyeshadow shade and pop it into the inner corner of your eyes. This will brighten them up and make your eyes look younger and more radiant.

Buying Eyeshadow

Although you can buy single eyeshadows and they are handy for popping into your handbag. Buying an eyeshadow pallette works out so much better value. You get a few more colours to experiment with and soon start to notice, which colours compliment others. You can often buy a palette of eyeshadows for the price of a single one.
