Skincare Tips For Looking After Your Face

smokey eyes and lovely skin on a lady.

Your face is the part of your body that is out on show more than any other part. So it usually needs that little bit of extra care, especially to keep it hydrated and moisturised. There are so many free radicals and pollutants in the air, that it all affects the skin on your face. But keeping on top of facial care can help to keep your face fresh and moisturised despite the elements. Here are some tips to help you to start looking after your face, you need to start looking after it in your 20s to keep it looking great as you get older.

Morning Routines Are Important

Every morning you need to get up and cleanse your face. Throughout the night, you have been sweating and tossing and turning. Rubbing your face in the bedding and old skin has flaked off. So when you wake up using a good cleanser, micellar water is sufficient to wipe over your face. Then put on your daily moisturiser and/or serum. If your skin is oily you can use a little bit of powder to mattify it and take the shine away.

You can also use a cream cleanser and toner, although this is a long process in the mornings. Make sure you are using the right cleanser for your skin because if you use the wrong one, it can dry your skin out or cause a reaction.

After you have cleaned, you need to moisturise. There are many different moisturisers to choose from. Ones with SPF, Light moisturisers, heavy moisturisers. You can get moisturisers that do different things to your skin, some have collagen to plump up the skin and others contain vitamin c to give your skin a glow. The choice of moisturiser is down to you, but make sure it is the right one for your skin.

Take extra care when you clean and moisturise around the eye area. This skin is very delicate and pulling it or rubbing it in the wrong direction can cause premature wrinkles and ageing. When you work around your eyes, use your pinky finger because this finger puts less pressure on that area.

Nightly Routines Before Bed

You need to cleanse again to remove the makeup and the dirt that has gathered on your face throughout the day. At the end of the day, the last thing you want to do is a whole cleansing routine. But if you put it on your bedside table next to the bed, you will get into a routine of doing it nightly. Use your cleanser or micellar water to clean and then use a night cream. A night cream is thicker than a day cream, so it has all night to work its way deeper into your skin.

if your skin is prone to acne, now is the time to treat your skin. After cleaning it treat it with the products that you have. A spot stick will target the individual areas. You can apply a serum that contains BHA (salicylic acid) or AHA (lactic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid). Serums penetrate deeper than a cream or lotion. So applying this at night gives it plenty of time to penetrate deeper and do its job.

Once A Week Skin Care Routines

Exfoliating your face needs doing once a week, but it can be done more often if you wish. An exfoliant is a wash with grains in it to remove the dead skin cells that gather on your face. The dead skin cells cover your pores and block them, so the exfoliator removes them and helps to control breakouts. It also helps to hydrate your skin and help it feel smoother, which makes you look younger.

Exfoliators do have ingredients in them that can dry your skin out, so don’t do it too often. If your skin is dry, it can also irritate your face too.

Treat yourself to a face mask once a week. You can buy them from the shop as pre-made, or make them yourself from ingredients at home. If your skin is dry, use porridge oats and water to cool your skin down and add some goodness to it. Milk makes another great face mask and so does banana, as it is filled with vitamins.

Every Month To Six Weeks

Looking after your face isn’t just about daily or weekly skin care. There are also things you can do less often that will help you to get perfect skin.

Have a facial about once a month to 6 weeks. This has so many benefits for your face as it improves the circulation of the blood vessels to even out your skin colour, improve hydration, and improve skin tone. It can also make your skin soft and radiant. A facial can also help the collagen and elastin in your face recover slightly too.

A facial might make your face look red for a little while after it has been done. This is completely normal and will settle down within a couple of days. Following these tips for looking after your face can help your skin to be at its best. After all, it is going to be part of you for the rest of your life.
